Pininfarina-designed Sukhoi Superjet 100 interiors win red dot design award

High-tech, “made in Italy” design unites the jury

First example of the aircraft to be presented in June in Paris

Turin (Italy) June 4th 2013

The interiors of the Sukhoi Superjet 100, designed by Pininfarina, will be presented with a “red dot design award 2013” on 1 July in Essen, Germany. The aircraft is a new-generation, highly technologically innovative 100-seater regional jet, produced by Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company (SCAC) in collaboration with Alenia Aermacchi.

As part of the long-standing partnership between Alenia Aermacchi, part of the Finmeccanica Group, and Pininfarina Extra (Pininfarina Group), which includes experimentation, working on mock-ups and 3D animations, Alenia has introduced a new concept of interiors, designed by Pininfarina, for the Sukhoi Superjet 100.

“This new sign of esteem for our team’s work fills us with pride and reaffirms Pininfarina’s role in the design world,” said the president, Paolo Pininfarina. “Together with Alenia, the objective was to create a design able to guarantee an excellent travel experience, optimising style and functionality with a clear vision of the air travel of the future. With our team, we concentrated on the overall ergonomics of the cabin, in which scientific, technological and engineering research unite with the aesthetics. The feeling of the passenger when they first see the aircraft’s interior was crucial; it is more spacious, comfortable and relaxing compared to other airplanes in the same category.”

The cabin of the Sukhoi Superjet 100 will be assembled in Tessera, outside Venice, in the SuperJet International factory. SuperJet International is a joint venture between Alenia Aermacchi (51%) and Sukhoi Holding (49%), responsible for marketing and sales in Western markets and worldwide post-sales support for the Sukhoi Superjet 100.

“I’m very satisfied with the results we’ve obtained,” said Nazario Cauceglia, Chief Executive Officer of SuperJet International. “Interjet is a leading Mexican airline which offers a high-quality service. That’s why we aimed high, at a product able to fully meet the elevated standards of the client. Comfort was one of the cornerstones of the contract with Interjet from the very beginning. When compared to other aircraft in the same category, the Sukhoi Superjet 100 is considerably more comfortable: the generous space between the seats, which are extremely comfortable and arranged in the 3+2 configuration; the roomy luggage bins; the internal illumination characterised by modulable LED lights and the extreme quietness in the cabin all ensure maximum comfort for passengers during their flight.”

The first example of the Sukhoi Superjet 100, which will enter into service with the Mexican airline Interjet, will be presented on 18 June at Le Bourget during the International Paris Air Show 2013. Interjet, which has ordered 20 jets, is the first client to choose for its fleet of Sukhoi Superjet 100s the new cabin designed by Alenia and Pininfarina, the most spacious and comfortable in its category, destined in the future for other aviation companies interested in this expression of Italian design.
